The Paul Skerritt Band, now in their 10th year, very quickly cemented their place at the top of the North-East music scene, having achieved critical acclaim from a wide number of well-respected venues and people. The whole ethos of the band is ‘fun’, and this shows with every song they play. Being not just band mates, but good friends helps keep this ethos running through every show they perform. The band have a wide and versatile repertoire, spanning many genres from Rock and Funk, to Hip Hop. But all performed in an ingenious Jazz style, bringing a new take on songs you will all recognise. Their musicality and versatility is shown perfectly in their self-crafted arrangements of songs that ordinarily would never make it into the repertoire of a jazz band. Taylor Swift, Wild Cherry, James Brown and Daft Punk have all been given the ‘Jazzed’ treatment. The band is available in several line ups, the most popular proving to be with the addition of a saxophone player.
The Paul Skerritt Band have opened for the likes of Tony Hadley and Boney M, so are not afraid to take to the stage in front of thousands of people. They get as much of a buzz playing to substantial audiences as they do playing at an intimate function or wedding, and the delivery and musicianship always remains the same. The camaraderie between the band members is key in giving the audience, whoever or wherever they may be, a show that they won’t forget in a hurry, and will always leave the audience wanting more. The Paul Skerritt Band in the past have catered for most event types, having performed at weddings, corporate events, restaurants, jazz events, and private events to name a few.
Local North East Jazz blog Bebop Spoken Here have been in attendance to many of The Paul Skerritt Band’s public gigs, and always has a kind word or 2 to say about the band. One such example is;
“The Paul Skerritt Band entertain and they do it with presentation, brilliant musicianship and communication.
This latter word is the clue. Communication.
They communicate! Even playing Happy Birthday - as just about every other band does every other gig - is a groove. Skerritt can work a room as well as many more illustrious names do and tonight was no exception.”
